Section 160.1 - Purpose

(a) These rules are promulgated under the authority of the Medical Practice Act Title 3, Subtitle B, Texas Occupations Code and the Medical Physics Practice Act, Texas Occupations Code Annotated Chapter 602, concerning the licensure and regulation of medical physicists. The purpose of these rules is to:
(1) protect the health, safety, and welfare
of the citizens of this state from harmful effects of radiation;
(2) protect the public from the practice of
medical physicists by incompetent licensees.
(b) This chapter will protect the public from the dangers described by subsection (a)(1) and (2) of this section by:
(1) establishing minimum standards of
education, training, and competency for persons engaged in the practice of
medical physics; and
(2) ensuring
that the privilege of practicing in the field of medical physics is entrusted
only to those persons licensed under the Act.
