Chapter 1340-01-12 - Issuance of Motorcycle License and Motorcycle Learner's Permit (Class M), (Class P-M)
Section 1340-01-12-.04 - ISSUANCE OF MOTORCYCLE LEARNER'S PERMIT, CLASS PM

(1) Minors who are fifteen (15) years of age and a legal resident of this state, may apply for a motorcycle learner's permit (Class P-M)
(2) This application must be made at a driver examination station that has been designated by the Commissioner or his representative as a motorcycle testing center.
(3) Applicants who successfully complete the written and visual phase of the examination will be permitted to take the ability skills test.
(4) Applicants must bring a motorcycle that meet all state laws and standards to the testing center.
(5) Applicants shall not be permitted to operate or drive the motorcycle to the testing center.
(6) Applicants who successfully complete all phases of the motorcycle licensing examination will be issued a motorcycle learner's permit. (Class P-M)
(7) Any applicants who fail any phase of the examination will not be issued a motorcycle learner's permit, (Class P-M) nor will they be allowed to operate a motorcycle until they have successfully passed all phases of the examination.
(8) Application who bring a certificate of completion from a state certified motorcycle rider education course, shall be exempt from taking the ability skills test.
(9) Individual who are issued a motorcycle learner's permit (Class P-M) license shall be restricted to the following:
(10) At the age of sixteen (16) (no later than ninety (90) days after their birthday) the holder of a motorcycle learner's permit (Class P-M) license must return to driver examination station and upgrade their motorcycle learner's permit (Class P-M) to a motorcycle license (Class M) to retain the privilege of operating a motorcycle.
(11) Applicants must comply with T.C.A § 55-7-104(7a)
