Chapter 0080-05-03 - Regulations Licensing and Regulating the Sale of Baby Chicks
Section 0080-05-03-.01 - FACILITIES FOR THE CARE OF BABY CHICKS

(1) The Poultry Industry is an important phase of Tennessee Agriculture. The welfare of said industry is governed by the production and sale of baby chicks and may be affected by the practice used in producing and selling of same. For the protection of both producer and purchaser, certain regulations are deemed necessary.

(2) In conformity with Section 6 of the above described Act the following regulation is hereby promulgated:

(a) ITEM 2, SECTION 4 reads:
1. "Provide ample facilities for the proper care and handling of baby chicks on the premises."

2. In order to conform to said provision the following standards, relative to facilities and their use, are hereby established: Eight square inches of battery brooder floor space per baby chick for the first week; ten square inches of battery brooder floor space per baby chick for the second week; double this space per baby chick for each additional two weeks. All baby chicks must be placed in brooders, fed and watered as soon as they are sixty hours old.

(b) In order to conform to ITEM 4 of SECTION 4 the following shall be required:
1. Label all containers holding twenty-five or more baby chicks when sold, offered for sale, or consigned from one owner and location to another, with the following:

2. Number of baby chicks; breed and variety; date hatched; hour hatched, whether or not parent stock has been tested for pullorum disease; cockerels, pullets, or straight run; name and address of producer; name and address of seller.
