A single-trip permit is required to move an oversized or overweight, or both, structure on the state trunk highways. Structures moved on a flat-bed or lowboy trailer may not exceed three times the axle width of the narrowest axle on the trailer, roof overhang excluded. The axle width will be measured from outside to outside of the axle's outside tires. Structures moved on a stack mover may not be wider than 24 feet or be longer than the length of the bed of the stack mover, roof overhang excluded, and the stack mover with a load may not be overweight. If flagpersons are required by § 70:03:01:20, they must be stationed at least one-quarter of a mile in front of and in the rear of the loaded vehicle.

All structures that have more than one level, or have one level with a floorplan that exceeds 2,000 square feet, shall be weighed by a representative of the South Dakota Highway Patrol prior to permit approval. The South Dakota Highway Patrol may choose to waive this requirement.

All structure movements requiring lifting of electrical power lines shall adhere to the following:

(1) Written verification must be supplied by the permit applicant to the permit issuing authority 48 hours prior to the move indicating that the permit applicant has complied with SDCL 49-32-3, utility company notification. Individual utility company verification documentation is not required;

(2) Only the electric company or their designee may lift their power lines to accommodate the structure movement.
