Section 64:29:03:03 - Status of South Dakota license plates when South Dakota certificate of title is surrendered

Current South Dakota license plates are automatically void when the South Dakota certificate of title covering the vehicle is surrendered out-of-state and an out-of-state certificate of title or ownership document is issued. If the vehicle returns to South Dakota during the same year, the owner shall apply for new license plates to the county treasurer and shall surrender the out-of-state title or ownership document.
