Each boiler must have a steam gauge connected to the steam space by a siphon or an equivalent device of sufficient capacity to keep the gauge tube filled with water. This connection must be arranged so that the gauge cannot be shut off from the boiler except by a cock placed near the gauge. This cock must be provided with a tee or lever-type handle. When the cock is open, the tee or lever must be parallel to the pipe in which the cock is located.
