Section 46:11:05:09.02 - Medications for Sedation

Any use of medication that sedates the participant before a medical or dental procedure must have the following documentation:

(1) Order from the doctor or dentist requiring the medication;

(2) Informed written consent from the participant, the participants parent if the participant is under 18 years of age, or the participants guardian, if any;

(3) Documentation of review by a quorum of the human rights committee prior to administration of the medication to ensure proper application of the medication; and

(4) Documentation of the participants ISP team consensus, that benefits of the medication outweigh risks, as well as a plan for reduction or elimination of the medication.

Medications administered by a physician or dentist at the site of the medical or dental procedure are not required to meet the requirements of this section.
