Section 20:48:04:02.03 - Authorization to perform kidney dialysis functions

A licensed practical nurse may perform kidney dialysis functions if the licensed practical nurse has completed a course on kidney dialysis that includes the following content:

(1) Anatomy and physiology;

(2) Assessment;

(3) Problem identification;

(4) Goals of care;

(5) Purposes and procedures;

(6) Complications;

(7) Evaluation and documentation.

The course must be taught by a licensed registered nurse with a minimum of two years kidney dialysis experience. Evaluation procedures for the course must include a final written examination and a demonstration of clinical skills. Supervised clinical practice and verification of clinical competence by a licensed registered nurse must follow the course content.
