Recipient signs are installed and maintained by the recipient. The sign shall be displayed and placed according to the following guidelines:

(1) The sign is displayed on, adjacent to, or in close proximity to the property for which the award was given;

(2) The sign is placed within the boundaries of South Dakota;

(3) The sign is erected along the roadside at the field edge right-of-way line in accordance with state law;

(4) The sign is firmly attached to a wood post, if possible, and erected facing parallel to the roadway no less than 48 inches above the ground;

(5) The sign is not attached to a building or tree;

(6) Brush, weeds, and trash are cleared from the base of a sign.

Any additional signage, such as a conservation district logo and landowner's name, may be affixed to the award sign post but not on the award sign. An award recipient may purchase up to three additional signs from the State Conservation Commission. Damaged signs may be replaced at the owner's expense. All signs, including those purchased by the recipient, remain the property of the State Conservation Commission. The commission may remove signs if sign standards are not maintained.
