Section 280-RICR-30-15-1.18 - Certified Inspection Technician

1.18.1 Requirements

A. The Certified Inspection Technician (CIT) shall be certified by the Department to perform motor vehicle safety and emission inspections.

B. A person seeking certification as a Certified Inspection Technician (CIT) must be eighteen (18) years of age or older, must hold a valid driver's license and must have successfully completed the requirements of a training course approved by the Department or designee. The CIT must demonstrate to the Department a knowledge of and proficiency in performing the required Rhode Island I/M Program test procedures. The CIT certification shall be posted in a conspicuous location visible to the public with in the Authorized Inspection Repair Station. The CIT shall be certified by the Department to perform motor vehicle safety and emission inspections only.

1.18.2 Application

The application for Certified Inspection Technician must be on an official form designated by the Department. The application is for an individual not a corporate or company application. The designation as a CIT may be withdrawn by the Department for good cause at any time.
