GENERAL RADIATION SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

(a) The facility shall operate within the terms and conditions of the license issued for the operation of the accelerator.
(b) A licensee may not permit an individual to act as an operator of an accelerator until the individual:
(1) Has been instructed
in radiation safety and has demonstrated an understanding thereof.
(2) Has received copies of and instruction in
this chapter and Chapters 219 and 220 (relating to standards for protection
against radiation; and notices, instructions and reports to workers;
inspections and investigations), pertinent license conditions and the
licensee's operating and emergency procedures and demonstrated understanding
thereof.
(3) Has demonstrated
competence to use the accelerator, related equipment and survey instruments
which will be utilized in that individual's assignment.
(c) The radiation safety officer shall have the authority to restrict or terminate operations at an accelerator facility if the action is necessary to minimize danger to health and safety, property or the environment.
