Section 1. Section 4 of the act of December 2, 1968 (P. L. 1131, No. 352), known as the Magisterial Districts Act, is amended by adding a subsection to read:
Section 4. Magisterial Districts; Classes.-***
(c)
There shall be
no increase in the number of magisterial districts of the fourth class within a
judicial district from and after the effective date of this
act.
Section 2. Section 5(a) of the act is amended to read:
Section 5. Salaries.-
(a) A district justice shall receive an
annual salary paid by the Commonwealth and computed by adding to [three
thousand dollars ($3,000)] six thousand dollars
($6,000) the product of the population of his magisterial
district times forty cents (40¢), but in no event shall the salary exceed
[fourteen thousand dollars ($14,000)] sixteen thousand five
hundred dollars ($16,500) or be less than seven thousand five hundred dollars
($7,500).
