Chapter 581 - OREGON DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Division 22 - STANDARDS FOR PUBLIC ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Section 581-022-2030 - District Curriculum

(1) As used in this rule, "curriculum" means the planned instructional program, which includes the goals, essential skills, academic content standards, instructional materials as defined in OAR 581-011-0050, supplemental resources, instructional methods, and assessments needed to help students develop critical skills and knowledge.

(2) Each school district shall provide a planned K-12 instructional program.

(3) The planned K-12 instructional program shall include Common Curriculum Goals adopted by the State Board of Education to include:

(a) Content Standards as defined in OAR 581-022-0102(10) for the following:
(A) Language Arts;

(B) Mathematics;

(C) Science;

(D) Social Science (including history, geography, economics and civics);

(E) The Arts;

(F) World Languages;

(G) Health Education;

(H) Physical Education;

(I) Comprehensive School Counseling; and

(J) Social and Emotional Learning;

(b) Additional Common Curriculum Goals for technology;

(c) Essential Skills; and

(d) Career education as outlined in OAR 581-022-2055, which may include career and technical education.

(4) In addition to the requirements outlined in section (3), each school district offering grades 9 or higher shall provide a planned 9-12 instructional program, which includes the following academic content standards:

(a) Personal Financial Education; and

(b) Higher Education and Career Path Skills.

(5) The school district shall also provide instruction in other areas identified in chapter 581, division 22 of the Oregon Administrative Rules, including:

(a) Infectious diseases, including AIDS/HIV and Hepatitis B;

(b) Substance use prevention education; and

(c) Emergency plans and safety programs.

(6) The school district is also accountable to provide instruction in compliance with requirements set forth in ORS Chapter 336, Conduct of Schools Generally.
