Section 581-017-0632 - Program Requirements: SSA Summer Program Grant

(1) A summer program that receives funding must:

(a) Serve students in kindergarten through grade 8, this includes students entering kindergarten in the fall and students exiting 8th grade going into 9th grade;

(b) Provide a broad array of focused, well-rounded, culturally responsive, and when appropriate culturally specific, educational activities targeted to meet the needs of students to advance academic achievement and support student success, including, but not limited to, activities that support:
(A) Inquiry-based, hands-on instruction;

(B) Healthy and active lifestyle, including physical activity; or

(C) Students' mental health including social and emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, strength-based and equity-centered approaches.

(c) Provide the cohort of enrolled students with at least 60 hours of Direct Academic Instruction that:
(A) Is scheduled over at least three consecutive weeks; and

(B) Held at an approved, accessible location, as determined by the Department of Education.

(d) Offer a child nutrition program if the summer program is eligible for the nutrition program and is required to provide meals under state or federal law;

(e) Document daily attendance of all enrolled students;

(f) Ensure staff are trained to implement program requirements and work effectively with all students within their school population, including students who have been identified as English learners and children with disabilities as defined by ORS 343.035(1);

(g) Provide effective and culturally responsive outreach methods to ensure enrolled students represent:
(A) Demographics of the school's student population; and

(B) Students that are currently and historically underserved and could benefit most from summer programming.

(h) Provide transportation services to and from the program; and

(i) Meet other programs requirements as provided in the grant agreement.

(2) Summer programs that receive funding may not charge fees for student participation.
