Section 230-120-0130 - Referee's License

In order to be licensed as a referee, an applicant may be required to meet all the following requirements:

(a) Have two years of documented experience refereeing martial arts or kickboxing matches with a minimum of 100 matches refereed. It is not necessary that this experience be obtained by refereeing professional contests;

(b) Be found after examination by a licensed physician to be physically and mentally fit to referee a kickboxing contest and to have uncorrected visual acuity of at least 20/100 in both eyes. Weight shall be proportionate to height in accordance with the standards of the American Medical Association in effect at the time of the effective date of this regulation;

(c) Be in good physical condition with the speed and reflexes in the ring necessary for the protection of the fighters;

(d) Pass a written examination administered by the Superintendent on the fundamentals of kickboxing, refereeing and judging kickboxing matches and contests, and Oregon law and regulations relating to kickboxing;

(e) Perform a demonstration of competency by performing as a referee in a kickboxing match before a representative of the Superintendent and two licensed referees. The applicant shall demonstrate knowledge of refereeing techniques and the ability to manage and control a kickboxing match;

(f) Perform a demonstration of competency in

judging by judging at least 50 martial arts or kickboxing contests as verified by a representative of the Superintendent;

(g) These requirements may be waived for any applicant who is licensed or approved as a referee by the Professional Kickboxing Association or the World Kickboxing Association;

(h) In order to renew a referee's license, a referee shall comply with subsections (b) and (c) of this section in addition to any other requirements for renewal set forth in the law or these regulations.
