Chapter 20 - Leasing Seized or Surrendered Weapons and Vehicles
Section 375:20-1-5 - Special instructions - vehicles

(a) Vehicles leased to State and local law enforcement agencies will be for official use only, and should only be used to assist with the enforcement of the provisions of the Uniform Control Dangerous Substances Act. [63:2-101 et seq.]

(b) Upon leasing any vehicle the leasing agency will insure it receives a complete technical inspection by a qualified mechanic.

(c) Leasing agencies shall insure regular maintenance is performed on all OSBI vehicles.

(d) Leasing agencies shall report any accidents or major repairs to OSBI immediately upon occurrence.

(e) Leasing agencies shall provide a monthly report to OSBI Headquarters concerning the use and condition of leased vehicles. As a minimum this report will include the following information:

(1) mileage on vehicle since previous report;

(2) maintenance performed on vehicle since previous report;

(3) any accidents (even if previously reported - including time, place, circumstances, and copy of accident report); and

(4) comments concerning primary use of vehicle (e.g. surveillance, investigation, training, etc.).
