Section 35:15-44-20 - Animal identification requirements

(a) All cervids twelve (12) months or older shall be individually identified by at least one form of identification approved by the Department. There shall be no duplicate tags containing the same number and color within a breeding herd. Non-breeding male harvest animals that are natural additions and do not participate in any disease monitoring programs shall be exempt from this identification requirement.

(b) All cervids of any age shall be individually identified by at least one form of identification approved by the Department prior to movement from the original herd premises unless being moved directly to a licensed commercial harvest facility.

(c) The removal of an official identification device is prohibited except at the time of slaughter, at any other location upon death of the animal, or as otherwise approved by the State Veterinarian.

(d) An unofficial identification device may be removed prior to release of an animal in a harvest facility.
