Subchapter 11 - Use of X-Rays in the Healing Arts and Veterinary Medicine

Persons requesting that the Department approve a healing arts screening program shall submit the following information and evaluation:
(a) Administrative controls.
(1) The name and address of the applicant
and, where applicable, the names and addresses of agents within
Oklahoma.
(2) The diseases or
conditions for which the x-ray examinations are to be used in
diagnosis.
(3) A detailed
description of the x-ray examinations proposed in the screening
program.
(4) A description of the
population to be examined in the screening program(i.e., age, sex, physical
condition.)
(5) An evaluation of
any known alternate methods not involving radiation which could achieve the
goals of the screening program and why these methods are not being
utilized.
(6) All screening exams
must have an order from an Oklahoma licensed medical practitioner. The exam
order must be within the scope of the practitioner's license. The only
exceptions to this are screening mammography and bone density exams.
(b) Operating procedures.
(1) An evaluation by a
medical physicist of the diagnostic x-ray systems to be used in the screening
program. The evaluation by the medical physicist shall show compliance with
these rules.
(2) A description of
the diagnostic film quality control program.
(3) A copy of the technique chart to be used
for the x-ray examination procedures.
(c) Training.
(1) The qualifications of each individual who
will be operating the diagnostic x-ray systems.
(2) The qualifications of the individual who
will be supervising the operators of the diagnostic x-ray systems. The extent
of supervision and the method of work performance evaluation shall be
specified.
(3) The name and address
of the practitioner who will interpret the radiographs.
(d) Records.
(1) A description of the procedures to be
used in advising the individuals screened, and their private practitioners of
the healing art, of the results of the screening procedure and any further
medical needs indicated.
(2) A
description of the procedures for the retention or disposition of the
radiographs and other records pertaining to the x-ray examinations.
