(A) Policy statement

The university of Toledo is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning environment through promoting the health, well-being, and successful experiences of students.

(B) Purpose of policy

Establish an interdisciplinary campus advocacy, response, evaluation, and service (CARES) team empowered to provide an institution structure to support students of concern and recommends courses of action to support the students' health, safety, success, and wellbeing. Within the CARES team will be a sub-team known as the university behavior intervention team (UBIT) tasked with developing plans and enacting interim measures to respond to students whose behavior may directly threaten the safety of the learning environment. UBIT may also be involved in performing risk assessments for Title IX cases.

(C) Procedure

(1) Membership
(a) The chair of the CARES team is appointed by the vice president for student affairs.

(b) Members will be determined by the vice president for student affairs , but will generally consist of representatives from the dean of student's office, provost office, counseling center, student advocacy and support, student conduct and community standards, Title IX, residence life, and public safety.

(c) The composition of the CARES team may be adjusted on an ad-hoc basis.

(d) The composition of the UBIT will be smaller, will include the director for the center for education in mass violence and suicide, and may be adjusted on an ad-hoc basis as appropriate for each situation in consideration.

(2) Reporting
(a) The CARES will receive reports primarily from the office of student conduct and community standards and the office of student advocacy and support, however, any member of the general CARES team composition may submit reports for the well-being or safety of a student including belief a student may pose a threat to the community.

(3) Meetings
(a) The CARES team shall meet on a biweekly basis.

(b) The UBIT shall meet on an as needed basis.
