1. History. The 1967 legislative assembly passed the Potato Industry Promotion Act of North Dakota, which is codified as North Dakota Century Code chapter 4-10.1. This chapter establishes the state potato council to encourage and develop better methods of production, processing, and marketing of potatoes, and the advertising and promoting of potatoes grown in North Dakota.

2. Council membership. The council consists of the commissioner of agriculture, who is chairman, and one participating grower elected from each of the five potato districts established by statute. Elected members of the council serve three-year terms, and at least one term expires each year. No member may serve on the council more than two consecutive three-year terms.

3. Council secretary. The Red River Valley potato growers association hires a secretary to administer the day-to-day activities of the potato council.
