(a) The governing authority shall develop written policies and procedures designed to enhance safety within the facility and on its grounds and minimize hazards to patients, staff and visitors.
(b) The policies and procedures shall include establishment of the following:
(1) safety rules and practices pertaining to
personnel, equipment, gases, liquids, drugs;
(2) provisions for reporting and the
investigation of accidental events regarding patients, visitors and personnel
(incidents) and corrective action taken;
(3) provision for dissemination of
safety-related information to employees and users of the facility;
and
(4) provision for syringe and
needle storage, handling and disposal.
(c) Smoking shall be permitted only in designated areas which shall not include patient care and treatment areas.
