Section 4.32 - Executive order no. 32: renaming the new york state office of disaster preparedness to be the new york state emergency management office

WHEREAS, the Office of Disaster Preparedness, within the Division of Military and Naval Affairs, is the disaster and civil defense agency for the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, said Office of Disaster Preparedness is the focal point for Federal, State and local government programs and organizations involving emergency management; and

WHEREAS, the duties and responsibilities of the Office of Disaster Preparedness has evolved over time and now include not only program administration, but also activities associated with the prevention of, response to, and recovery form all man-made and natural disasters; and

WHEREAS, the present title, "Office of Disaster Preparedness" does not fully reflect the scope of the agency's duties and responsibilities in protecting the lives and property of people of New York State;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mario M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New York, under the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Laws of the State of New York, in order to promote more effective comprehensive emergency management, do hereby direct that the New York State Office of Disaster Preparedness be renamed the "New York State Emergency Management Office."
