Section 1.24 - Executive Order No. 24: Relating to the creation of the Health Resources Commission

I, Nelson A. Rockefeller, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the State of New York, and as Governor of the State of New York, by Executive Order do hereby create in the Department of Health a Health Resources Commission, which body shall provide the necessary stimulation and coordination of public and private endeavors to make more effective use of existing health manpower resources and stimulate the interest of young people in health careers.

Such Commission shall have eleven voting members who shall be the Commissioners of Health, Education, and Mental Hygiene and eight appointive members, appointed by the Governor, one of whom shall be a representative of the State University of New York and six of whom shall be representatives of professional organizations and groups concerned with the health professions. The Health Commissioner shall serve as Chairman. The terms of office for the appointive members shall be three years, except that three of the initial appointments shall be for one year and two shall be for two years.

General Powers.

The Commission shall: Coordinate the activities and programs of interested departments, agencies and professional associations and groups to increase the number of persons working in the health field; develop a statewide program to encourage interest in health careers at educational institutions, both public and private; and formulate a recommended State policy relating to guidance, counseling and recruitment of students and graduates for health careers.

The Commission shall conduct such studies, research and investigations as it may deem advisable and necessary and shall inform the public concerning the State's efforts to increase available health resources.
