SAFETY CHECK LIST

1. Grounds
Sidewalks, Pavements, Fences, etc. Check for cracks, tripping hazards and projecting wires, paying special attention to entrances, stairs, ramps, play areas and areas around fire hydrants.
Trees and Shrubs Check for dead limbs and low branches.
Play Areas Check condition of equipment. Remove splintering play logs.
2. Buildings
Roofs Check for loose tiles and bricks. Keep free of debris.
Public Space (stairs, windows and doors) Check for loose or cracked stairs, hard to open windows and doors.
Elevators Check for leveling of car, operation of safety devices, regular servicing.
Garbage Removal Station Check for general cleanliness and security under foot. Availability of fire extinguishing equipment.
Lighting Check for adequacy, especially at stairs, ramps and entrances.
Meter Rooms Check for fuse pullers and rubber mats in front of panels; adequacy of ventilation in gas meter room.
Incinerator Rooms Check for safety goggles and excessive accumulation of trash.
Incinerator Hoppers Check for proper closing, for sign prohibiting disposal of explosion hazards.
Pump and Machinery Rooms Check safety devices and guards, adequacy of light, ramps and ladders.
Storage Rooms Check for accumulation of rubbish and combustibles.
Community Centers and Recreational Rooms Check exits, stairs, lighting, etc.
Laundry Rooms Check electrical and drain connections, lighting, etc.
Lightning Rods Check installation, connections and soil resistance.
3. Streets and Intersections
School Crossings, Traffic Signals and Sign Check for general safety and adequacy; discuss with proper authority if necessary.
Bus Stop Check for adequacy of lighting and presence of signs.
Parking Areas Check for adequacy of lighting, and condition of curbs and stops.
4. Maintenance Space
Shops, Electrical Tools, Boiler Room, Protective Clothing, Employee Work Habits Observe periodically and check for fire hazards, equipment hazards, safe work habits, etc.
5. Apartments
Heating Equipment, Ranges, Hardware, Windows and Window Guards, etc. Check for safety and adequacy of equipment.
