Section 167.6 - Standards and methods of instruction

(a) The agency shall:
(1) use a curriculum developed or approved by
the department;
(2) provide
instruction that is individually prescribed and paced within each
class;
(3) maintain individual
student folders, easily accessible to teachers and students in accordance with
the requirements of subdivision (a) of section
167.9 of this
Part.
(4) involve students in the
decisions concerning their learning programs; and
(5) provide students regularly with reports
of their progress.
(b) The agency shall make individual and group career counseling available to enrolled students.
(c) Except as otherwise provided in subdivision (d) of this section, the agency shall:
(1) give entrance tests in reading and
mathematics to determine the approximate skill level of each student;
(2) use standardized achievement tests which
report scores in grade equivalents, and which have forms for retesting at
required intervals or such other instruments as the commissioner may determine;
and
(3) test students at intervals
necessary to determine status and progress.
(d) For students of limited English proficiency, the agency shall:
(1) give oral
placement tests prior to placing such students in class; and
(2) test such students with an achievement
test specifically designed for such students at intervals necessary to
determine status and progress.
