Section 145-6.5 - Science and technology entry program

(a) As used in the definition of eligible students set forth in Education Law, section 6454(b), minorities historically underrepresented in the scientific, technical, health and health-related professions shall include residents of New York State or students who meet the requirements set forth in subparagraph (ii) of paragraph a or subparagraph (ii) of paragraph b of subdivision five of section 661 of the Education Law, as applicable, who are black, Hispanic, American Indian or Alaskan native.

(b) Program administration. Activities funded under the science and technology entry program shall be administered pursuant to a contract between the State Education Department and the participating institutions or consortia of institutions.

(c) In awarding contracts for the science and technology entry program, priority shall be given among those eligible applicants who meet all requirements set forth in Education Law, section 6454(5)(a) to those who have proven records of success in minority recruitment and retention and show a matching contribution in excess of that required pursuant to Education Law, section 6454(5)(a)(3).
