Section 86.2 - Shellfishing

Shellfishing has been reserved by the Town of Brookhaven for citizen-residents only and subject to the following restrictions:

(a) A permit from the town must be obtained to take in excess of one-half bushel of shellfish per person per day.

(b) The use of a dredge is prohibited.

(c) No shellfishing is permitted on Sundays.

(d) Oysters may not be taken from May 1 to September 1 inclusive, and shall be in excess of five inches in length.

(e) Hard clams shall be not less than one inch in thickness.

(f) Soft shell clams shall be not less than two inches in length.

This section in no way suspends or negates any other existing State or town regulation pertaining to the taking of shellfish.
