Section 653.1 - Types of vehicles excluded

The following types of vehicles shall not be allowed upon the bridges:

(a) Dangerous or unsafe vehicles which, in the judgment of the superintendent, are loaded, constructed or operated in such a manner as likely to endanger persons or property, render the use of the bridges unsafe, or unduly interfere with other traffic.

(b) Vehicles, which in the opinion of the superintendent, are in charge of incompetent or intoxicated operators.

(c) Vehicles with contents weighing more than 40,000 pounds, or more than 28,000 pounds on one axle or with a wheel load exceeding 700 pounds per inch width of tire in contact with the roadway, or being over eight feet in width, except by special permission of the superintendent.

(d) Self-propelled vehicles or trailers with metal tires, except steam rollers without cleats.

(e) Vehicles with inadequate brakes or overloaded to such an extent that the means of propulsion are insufficient.
