Section 50.5 - Purpose

It is the purpose of this regulation to reduce the possibility of marine disasters such as collisions and pollution causing oil spills in the waters of New York by setting out regulations governing the piloting of foreign vessels and United States vessels sailing under register and by ensuring that the State-licensed pilots charged with this responsibility are qualified by high levels of training and experience.
