Section 460.3 - Selection of homemakers

Homemakers shall be selected in accordance with civil service requirements. In accordance with rules of the board (18 NYCRR 98.1), they shall have the qualifications established by the appropriate civil service commission. In selecting persons for employment from among those who have such qualifications, public welfare departments shall select those who are:

(a) mature, stable women with experience in homemaking;

(b) in good health as established by an initial physical examination and an annual one thereafter, including chest X-ray and blood tests;

(c) of proven ability to read and write with completion of elementary school or better, as desirable; and

(d) evaluated through interview as to her interest and respect for people, ability to adapt readily to varying situations, responsibility and ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions.
