Part 973 - Abandonment Of Railroad Transportation Property
Section 973.3 - Review of notification

Upon receipt of notification of intent to dispose of abandoned railroad transportation property and the necessary maps and information previously described, a 120 day review period shall begin. The Department of Transportation shall immediately institute investigations to determine if the property is required for transportation purposes. At the same time, all appropriate transportation authorities and State and local governmental agencies shall be notified of the railroad company's intention, and be requested to determine if they desire to exercise the preferential acquisition rights, should the department decide not to exercise the right in this regard.
