Section 104.2 - Validating stickers

(a) The commissioner shall issue a set of two validating stickers with all original boat registrations issued on and after June 1, 1986, and with all renewals of boat registrations which expire on and after June 30, 1986.

(b) Prior to September 1, 1986, the commissioner shall mail without fee a set of two validating stickers to each boat registrant for each boat validly registered in such person's name for which the registrant has not previously been issued a set of validating stickers pursuant to subdivision (a) of this section. These shall be mailed to the address contained on the boat registration file of the department.

(c) On or after September 1, 1986, any such registrant who has not received a set of validating stickers pursuant to subdivision (a) or (b) of this section may apply for a set at any district office of the department or at any county clerk's office which issues boat registrations.

(d) Any boat operated on the navigable waters of this State will not be considered as validly registered unless a set of unexpired validating stickers is properly displayed on the boat. The provisions of this subdivision shall not apply to a boat bearing a valid temporary registration or to a boat not required to be registered under article 48 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

(e) On a nondocumented vessel, one validating sticker must be affixed to each side of the hull. If the boat is double-hulled, one validating sticker must be affixed to the outer side of each hull. Each one shall be affixed approximately three inches to the stern of the registration number.

(f) On a documented vessel, one validating sticker must be affixed to each side of the forward half of the hull. If the boat is double-hulled, one validating sticker must be affixed to the outer side of the forward half of each hull. Each validating sticker must be clearly visible from a distance of 100 feet.

(g) Validating stickers shall expire on the last day of the month and year indicated upon such stickers.
