Section 35.1 - Introduction

Articles 6, 7 and 8 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law require that motorists be able to respond to damages arising out of the ownership, maintenance or use of a motor vehicle; and provide for the reporting of motor vehicle liability insurance information, the monitoring of the status of required insurance coverage and the imposition of penalties for having an uninsured vehicle and operating an uninsured vehicle. This Part describes the general rules governing DMV's issuance of a registrant inquiry letter, suspension and revocation order, compliance with and rescission of a suspension and revocation order, restoration, payment of a civil penalty, acceptable proof of compliance, and other related matters.
