Section 28.3 - Established wire services

For the purposes of this Part, a wire service is any person, firm, copartnership, association or corporation which provides assistance to registrants in securing permits, licenses, registrations and similar governmental documentation necessary to operate commercial vehicles. In order to qualify as an established wire service, a wire service must have authority from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to issue temporary truck mileage tax and fuel tax permits and authority from the New York State Department of Transportation to issue overweight and dimension permits. Established wire services may assist registrants in obtaining Temporary Evidence of Apportioned Registration from this department and issue trip permits to registrants in accordance with the provisions of this Part and such services may charge fees for such assistance. An established wire service shall not be deemed to be a private service bureau and need not be licensed pursuant to section 395 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.
