Section 20.5 - Application for certificate of title and registration

(a) Vehicles sold by dealers registered under section 415 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law. See section 78.11 of this Title.
(b) Vehicles sold by persons other than dealers registered under section 415 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law. The applicant shall complete all applicable portions of the application for registration or title (Form MV-82), and submit such form to an issuing office of the Department of Motor Vehicles together with the certificate of title for that vehicle assigned to him by the prior owner, or other appropriate transfer documents if the vehicle was purchased out-of-state, notices of satisfaction of liens, if any, proper insurance I.D. card, sales tax clearance certificate, and all required fees.
(c) Vehicles titled or registered in another state or jurisdiction by the same owner. The applicant shall complete all applicable portions of an application for registration or title (Form MV-82), and submit such form to an issuing office of the Department of Motor Vehicles together with the title certificate from such other state or a copy of such title certificate, or registration certificate, or other acceptable ownership document for such vehicle, proper insurance I.D. card, sales tax clearance certificate, and all required fees.
