Section 17.9 - Special provisions with respect to certain number plates

In addition to those situations set forth in section 17.1 of this Part and notwithstanding any other provisions of this Part to the contrary, between July 1, 1986 and June 30, 1988, a set of number plates may consist of only one metallic number plate if all of the following conditions are met:
(a) The metallic number plate does not bear the likeness of the Statue of Liberty.
(b) The plate is validly displayed on the rear of the vehicle, except if the vehicle is a tractor, the plate is displayed on the front.
(c) A current validating sticker containing that plate number and the appropriate description of the vehicle is properly affixed to the windshield of the vehicle.
(d) The second number plate of the set originally issued has been lost, stolen, mutilated or destroyed.
(e) A replacement facsimile of such second number plate is obtained from an office of the Department of Motor Vehicles and is properly completed and displayed on the dashboard or passenger-side window visor of the vehicle in a manner so that it is visible through the windshield from the outside of the vehicle.
