Section 16.6 - Reissuance of plates

(a) A special number plate for which the validation has expired, but which plate has not been surrendered to the department, shall not be reissued until one year after its last stated expiration date.

(b) Except as provided in section 16.7(b) of this Part, a special number plate which has been surrendered to or replaced by the department shall not be reissued until one year from:

(1) the expiration of the first year of the two-year registration period if the plats is surrendered or replaced within the first year; or

(2) the expiration of the second year of the two-year registration period if the plate is surrendered or replaced during the second year.

However, if the plate is requested by the person who had such plate replaced by the department or who surrendered the same, such plate may be reissued immediately, provided that the plate is available for issuance. This subdivision shall not apply to plates in reserved series, which may be reassigned immediately.
