Section 8.4 - Effects of waiver of road test

(a) Classroom driver training requirements.

If a road test is waived upon application for an original license, the applicant shall not be considered a new driver within the meaning of section 7.2(a) of this Title and will not be required to submit proof of satisfactory completion of not less than four hours and not more than five hours of classroom driver training prior to the issuance of a license, except that an applicant who is required to take a road test only because of age shall be considered to have a road test waived for the purposes of Part 7 of this Title.

(b) Probationary licensing.

Except where a road test has been waived under the provisions of section 8.2(b) of this Part, a license which has been issued after a waiver of a road test as provided in this section shall not be a probationary license under subdivision (4) of section 501 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.
