Section 585.6 - Design and space requirements for family care homes

(a) Mobile homes or trailers shall not be permitted for use as family care homes.

(b) Each resident bedroom in a family care home shall contain an individual bed, bureau, closet and sufficient space for all furniture and resident passage therein.

(c) Each resident bedroom shall contain at least 70 square feet (exclusive of closets) for the first bed and at least 50 square feet (exclusive of closets) for each additional bed.

(d) No resident shall share a bedroom with more than one other person, except in homes certified prior to July 2006, in which case the room capacity shall not exceed four persons.

(e) Access and exit from any bedroom shall be to a hall or corridor, and not through a bathroom, toilet room or another bedroom.

(f) There shall be a minimum of one toilet, one lavatory and one tub or shower for each six persons living in the family care home.

(g) In addition to bedroom space, at least 30 square feet of space per person residing in the home shall be provided for living, dining and recreational activities. Dining space shall be furnished to provide for family group seating during meals.
