Section 18.4 - Examination and hospitalization of prisioners

The director or director of community mental health services who has received a notice in accordance with the foregoing section, if licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York, or someone designated by him who is so licensed shall forthwith examine the prisoner. If the determination upon such examination is that the prisoner is in need of involuntary care and treatment, the appropriate application and medical certificates required by section 31.27 of the Mental Hygiene Law shall be completed. The prisoner shall then be taken immediately to an appropriate hospital for admission pursuant to such law.
