Section 17.5 - Transfer of patients admitted in accordance with section 31.39 of the mental hygiene law

(a) A patient admitted to a hospital in accordance with section 31.39 of the Mental Hygiene Law may be admitted to another hospital pursuant to the provisions governing involuntary admission on application supported by medical certification without the necessity of obtaining an order of transfer.
(b) No patient shall be transferred from one hospital to another as described in subdivision (a) of this section unless the Mental Health Information Service is provided with prior notice of the proposed movement.
