Section 300.1 - Purpose

(a) These regulations are promulgated pursuant to the "New York Lemon Law," General Business Law ("GBL") section 198-a, as amended by chapter 799 of the Laws of 1986, and section 198-b, as amended by chapter 609 of the Laws of 1989. They set forth the procedures for the operation of an alternative arbitration mechanism (the "Programs") as required by GBL section 198-a(k) and GBL section 198-b(f)(3).
(b) These regulations are designed to promote the independent, speedy, efficient and fair disposition of disputes concerning defective new and used motor vehicles.
