Section 441.214 - Newborn

(a) An inpatient newly born in the hospital and accepted for routine care and lodging in a newborn bed facility. Stillbirths are not to be considered newborn.

(b) The following should not be included as newborn patient days:

(1) boarder babies for nonmedical reasons;

(2) premature infants;

(3) infants born outside of hospital;

(4) newborn who, for medical reasons, remain in the hospital after the mother's discharge; and

(5) newborn who become sick and require general hospital care.
