The department is responsible for providing the public the means for making referrals at all times. Every appropriate referral is assigned to an adult protective services investigator for investigation in a reasonable time frame determined by the department. Upon receipt of a referral alleging abuse, neglect or exploitation of an adult in a care facility, the department notifies any of the state agencies which hold an interest in the licensing, certification or monitoring of the care facility.
