Part 1 - GENERAL PROVISIONS
Section 4.51.1.20 - POLICY ON VOLUNTEERS

Universal Citation: 4 NM Admin Code 4.51.1.20

Current through Register Vol. 35, No. 18, September 24, 2024

A. The museum of New Mexico makes extensive use of volunteers in many of its programs. In seeking and accepting the voluntary services of qualified, interested individuals, the museum recognizes that it has basic responsibilities to them as well as to itself.

B. The museum shall organize volunteers at the bureau level. Staff in need of voluntary help must obtain the approval of their associate director or bureau chief and under his supervision be responsible for proper management of volunteers.

C. In order to effectively use volunteers and to insure that volunteer performance meets acceptable standards, bureaus using volunteers shall:

(1) interview all prospective volunteers and provide them with a job description, outlining specific duties, time commitment and qualifications for acceptance as a volunteer;

(2) provide appropriate training, supervision and evaluation of volunteers;

(3) provide adequate work space and clear project organization;

(4) provide some form of recognition to volunteers; and

(5) reserve the right to dismiss unsatisfactory volunteers and establish procedures for doing so.

D. For the mutual protection of volunteers and the museum of New Mexico, those administering docent programs shall establish and inform volunteers of emergency procedures, ensure that volunteers understand the museum's liability as it applies to them, and inform volunteers of ethical standards and conflict-of-interest restrictions that apply to them as well as to regular museum employees.
