Subchapter 7 - SPECIFICATIONS FOR SPECIAL AUTOBUS-TYPE RECREATIONAL VEHICLES
Section 16:53-7.14 - Exhaust system

(a) The exhaust system shall be securely installed entirely outside of the vehicle body. The exhaust system shall be equipped with a muffler in proper operating condition. The exhaust system shall be free of leaks. Flexible pipe or tubing is prohibited in the exhaust system.
(b) The exhaust system shall vent to the rear of the rearmost portion of the special autobus-type recreational vehicle.
(c) The engine shall be maintained in proper operating condition so as to prevent the emission of excessive smoke or other air contaminants. Special autobus-type recreational vehicles shall meet the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection motor vehicle emission inspection standards applicable to the type of engine installed.
(d) No portion of the exhaust system shall be located in a manner that could result in the burning or damaging of electrical wiring, fuel system components, or any combustible part of the special autobus-type recreational vehicle.
(e) Engine covers shall be properly sealed and shall not permit any engine compartment vapors to enter the passenger compartment.
