Section 16:53-5.2 - Registration certificates; omnibus and apportioned vehicle license plates

(a) An initial vehicle registration certificate and omnibus or apportioned vehicle license plates, as required by law, shall not be issued to any operator of a van-type autobus, an autobus, a small autobus, a special autobus-type recreational vehicle, or a sedan-type autobus unless an Autobus Certificate of Compliance (MC-9) as set forth in chapter Appendix B, incorporated herein by reference, and an Authorization to Issue or Renew License Plates (CMC-12) as set forth in chapter Appendix C, incorporated herein by reference, have been issued for such vehicle by the Motor Vehicle Commission's Commercial Bus Inspection and Investigation Unit.

(b) An operator of a van-type autobus, an autobus, a small autobus, a special autobus-type recreational vehicle, or a sedan-type autobus shall present to the Motor Vehicle Commission the Autobus Certificate of Compliance (MC-9) and the Authorization to Issue or Renew License Plates (CMC-12) at the time of application for an initial vehicle registration certificate and omnibus or apportioned vehicle license plates.

(c) A vehicle registration certificate renewal and renewal of omnibus or apportioned vehicle license plates, as required by law, shall not be issued to any operator of a van-type autobus, an autobus, a small autobus, a special autobus-type recreational vehicle, or a sedan-type autobus unless an Authorization to Issue or Renew License Plates (CMC-12) as set forth in chapter Appendix C, incorporated herein by reference, has been issued for such vehicle by the Motor Vehicle Commission's Commercial Bus Inspection and Investigation Unit.

(d) An operator of a van-type autobus, an autobus, a small autobus, a special autobus-type recreational vehicle, or a sedan-type autobus shall present to the Motor Vehicle Commission the Authorization to Issue or Renew License Plates (CMC-12) at the time of application for a renewal of a vehicle registration certificate and omnibus or apportioned vehicle license plates.
