Universal Citation: NJ Admin Code 16:53-3.41

Current through Register Vol. 56, No. 18, September 16, 2024

(a) An autobus shall not have a video monitor, except as otherwise provided in 16:53-3.4 0(b), and/or a television receiver installed in such a manner that the viewing screen is visible to the driver while operating the autobus.

(b) The operation of a video monitor and/or television receiver, other than the on/off and volume functions, shall be performed at a location other than the driver's seat.

(c) A viewing screen shall be installed in such a manner so as to minimize passenger contact therewith. A viewing screen shall not block normal access to the aisle or emergency escape windows.

(d) A viewing screen placed above a passenger seat shall be installed in such a manner so as to allow a passenger to sit in the seat below the viewing screen without coming in contact with it.

(e) Except for the viewing screen and the front perimeter of the housing of the video monitor or television receiver, the video monitor or television receiver shall be enclosed in a material designed to soften any passenger impact with the chassis of the unit or its mounting components. Ventilation holes are permitted.

(f) All video equipment shall be securely mounted to the autobus so that such equipment cannot be moved without being intentionally unfastened. In lieu of this requirement, video equipment shall be inside of an enclosure to prevent its shifting or falling on the driver or passengers.

(g) Wiring shall be installed in a workmanlike manner and shall be equipped with an overload protector.
