Section 13:85-2.2 - Protective gear for range training and instruction

(a) To participate in range training and instruction in the MSE course, each participant and rider coach shall wear protective gear free of any defects. Protective gear shall consist of the following:

1. A motorcycle helmet that conforms to the standards established by the Motor Vehicle Commission pursuant to 39:3-76.7 for the operation of a motorcycle in this State, 13:20-24.10, 13:20-24.11, and 13:20-24.12, which are incorporated herein by reference;

2. Eye protection in the form of goggles or a face shield in conformance with the standards established by the Motor Vehicle Commission pursuant to 39:3-76.8 for the operation of a motorcycle in this State, N.J.A.C. 13:20-24.3, 24.4, 24.5, 24.6, and 24.7, except where the motorcycle is equipped with a windscreen in conformance with the standards established by the Motor Vehicle Commission pursuant to 39:3-76.9, N.J.A.C. 13:20-24.8 and 24.9, which are incorporated herein by reference;

3. Full-fingered gloves made of cloth, leather or other material adequate to provide the participant with sufficient hand control of the motorcycle and protection of the hands;

4. Long, non-flare pants of denim, corduroy or other material of equivalent durability that shall provide the necessary protection to the participant while operating on the range;

5. Over-the-ankle footwear, not made wholly of canvas or cloth materials, such as work shoes or boots, rising at least one inch above the ankle and which the rider coach determines will not interfere with the safe operation of a motorcycle on the range; and

6. A long-sleeved shirt or jacket.

(b) The Chief Administrator shall provide for distribution to providers and rider coaches such advisories on protective gear as he or she deems necessary to ensure uniformity of standards.

(c) Protective gear as set forth in (a) above shall be worn whenever a participant or rider coach is operating a motorcycle on the range during class or preparation for class.
