Section 13:36-9.15 - Required purchase of caskets for direct cremations

(a) In selling or offering to sell funeral goods or funeral services to the public, it is an unfair or deceptive act or practice for a funeral provider to require that a casket other than an unfinished wood box or alternative container be purchased for direct cremation.

(b) To prevent the unfair or deceptive act or practice mentioned in (a) above, funeral providers must make an unfinished wood box or alternative container available for direct cremations, if they arrange direct cremations.
